Dry, with little snow over the 1999-2000 Winter... More than 8 new wells dug due to falling water table... Several minor house break-ins...Rainy and cool -- 45 degrees at 5:30 a.m. -- the last two days (24-25 May)...
After taking separate vacations in Florida (male) and Haiti (female), the Sutton Island Osprey have returned!! Reliable sources inform me that "they always return on the 12th of April" and, in fact, one bird -- the female, as confirmed by satellite tracking -- was seen in the nest that day by close observers on the Mailboat. Her tardy mate joined her five days later. No doubt he offered some lame excuse for the delay...

Llama "Touche" gave birth to a female cria (baby llama) in the third week of March, named "Sha-day II" in honor of her grandmother. As you can see here, the newcomer has adorable markings...
Llama "Sha-day" (mother of Touche) died in January 2000, never really recovering from tragic loss of her own cria last September...
Skeldale Farm's Richard Beal resigned all posts (Selectman, Constable, Harbor Master) except Library Board...
The CIRT's (Cranberry Isles Realty Trust) Affordable Housing project got a big boost 24 May as Chuck Liebow's former house was successfully moved to the newly-prepared foundation near the Town Garage. Here it is being trucked down The Lane...

GCI Library is being renovated! DONATIONS URGENTLY REQUESTED... The interior wall and trim painting is finished and the new carpeting is installed (with padding, right, which doubles as floor insulation against the winter's cold.) Still to come are the additional Internet workstations... The new antique oaken card catalog has arrived!!! (Does "new antique" sound right?)
Mark down August 9, 2000... It's the 100th. Anniversary Ladies Aid Fair... Special events planned...
Work has begun on refurbishing the Ladies Aid Building.
The Congregational Church sports new interior paint and shiny floors thanks to a renovation completed late last season (1999)...
Great Cranberry Historical Society to open a MUSEUM in one of the classrooms of the Longfellow School... DONATIONS URGENTLY REQUESTED... Plans call for interior painting, wall-mounting of several descriptive pictorial wall panels, display of artifacts... Grand Opening planned for August 9, 2000...
Librarian Ruth Westphal & daughter recently returned from spring visit to Italy...
Cabin Creek Farm will be closed this summer, so no fresh vegetables :-(

Holly Hartley, Betty Hartley's daughter, is sure to enjoy her new house, built near the shore of Preble Cove, between Betty's own and Edna Andrade's. It seems to have sprung up like a mushroom over the winter... Quite interesting architectural features...
