Parking on Mt. Desert

For visitors to the Cranberry Isles

Northeast Harbor (using Beal & Bunker ferry)

Day visitors can use two free parking lots next to the town pier (one by the pier, the other across the street by the tennis courts), or the parking lot on the hill overlooking the harbor, behind the main street stores.

Overnight visitors can park, for a fee, in the police station parking lot near the town pier.  The $10 per night fee can be paid on the spot, at the police station, which is always open; tel. (207) 276-5111.  This might also be an option for day visitors if the free parking is full.

Long term paid parking is also available at Haynes Garage, tel. (207) 276-3773.

Visitors should be aware that there is a public toilet in the police station near the town pier.

Southwest Harbor (using Cranberry Cove ferry)

There is free day and overnight parking at the Southwest Harbor Upper Town Dock on Clark Point Road.  However, the number of spaces is limited, and the parking lot is tricky to find.

Starting on Route 102, at the flashing yellow light, turn east onto Clark Point Road.  Go past the three-way intersection, then past the nearby "Speed Limit 25" sign.  Now look for a second "Speed Limit 25" sign.

sign: SPEED LIMIT 25

After that second sign, go past 6 houses on the right.  The entrance to the parking lot is right there, on the right.  The entrance is 0.4 miles from Route 102.
