from the Cranberry Isles column of the Mount Desert Islander, 12 June 2008
It is with great sadness that we report that William (Bill) Goldberg died on June 7 at the age of 91. A nationally acclaimed musician and composer, Bill spent summers on Cranberry Island where, for many years, his piano playing brightened and enlightened the lives of friends and neighbors. On the island, Bill served as church pianist and played for organizational fund-raisers, as well as birthday parties, weddings, memorial services, and many more events. In short, we counted on Bill and his extraordinary musical talent, and he never let us down. He played for island sing-a-longs, and hosted many lively and joyous evenings of music and song in his home, where he encouraged everyone to participate. He was a generous, kind, and gentle man, and he will be greatly missed. We extend our deepest sympathy to his son, Mark, and to all of his family and friends.
