George Filmore Steele

b. 1884
d. 1905
age 21y 3m

Buried in the Preble Cemetery.

On the evening of Nov. 15 a telegram from Mrs. Myra G. Steele, who has been in Philadelphia for more than two years, conveyed the sad intelligence that she would arrive the next day with the remains of her son who had died in the hospital at Lewiston two days previous of typhoid hemorrhages.  Two years ago last September, Filmore left his home here to attend the academy at Hebron and had ever since been a faithful and hard-working student, beloved by all his teachers and classmates.  He was ailing for 11 days before, being taken to the hospital and lived just two weeks after his arrival at the hospital.  The funeral was held Friday afternoon from the Union meeting house, and the interment was in the Preble burying ground.  His age was 21 years and three months.  He was a smart, enterprising boy, and made friends wherever he went.  Elder Frank M. Shery officiated.  The floral tributes were beautiful, many being sent from classmates and students at Hebron.
