Obituary

Funeral services for John Franklin Hodgkins were held Saturday, Rev. J. Homer Nelson officiating.  Mr. Hodgkins died on July 8, after an illness of but a few weeks.  He spent the winter with his son Orin Hodgkins of Addison and in April returned to Bar Harbor where he has been critically ill at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edwin Mitchell.  Mr. Hodgkins was born in Lamoine May 10, 74 years ago.  He came to Bar Harbor several years ago and was a carpenter up to the time of failing health a few years ago, when he gave up work.

He leaves his widow, Mrs. Luhama Bunker Hodgkins, a son, Orin A. of Addison and a daughter, Mrs. Edwin Mitchell of Bar Harbor.  There are also several grandchildren.  He leaves also a niece, Mrs. Geneva Woodworth, who has assisted in caring for him during weeks of illness; a sister, Mrs. Dyer Young (Alvena); a brother, George C.

The rest of this is torn off.

This is a copy of the orig. newspaper clipping that is in bad shape.  I have filled in a couple of missing bits of info: his Birthday (10), (bor) on Bar Harbor, (ter) on carpenter, the word (few), and his sister's name.  -Virginia Davis

I have inherited from my mother, a set of portraits dated 1881, of my great grand parents, John Franklin Hodgkins, b. 5/10/1851, d. 7/8/1926, son of Edward Littlefield Hodgkins and Sarah Hamor; & his wife, Luhama Stackpole Bunker b. 7/4/1852 , probable born Cranberry Isles, Me but don't have that verified yet, the dau. of Samuel Staples Bunker born Cranbery Isles, ME and Hannah Amorette Stanley born Cranberry Isles, ME.

The originals are I guess, tintype. John's is 2"x2" and Luhama 3"x4". I took them to a photographer and had 8' x10" copies made and since the originals are very clear, the copies turned out very well.

I would like to see these preserved for future generations to enjoy and wondered if the Cranberry Isle HIstorical Society would have any interests in having a copy of them.
